Our final day in San Fransisco. We had purchased our Alcatraz tour tickets on the first day we were there as they sell out quickly. We got up early, packed up, got ready, had another yummy breakfast, checked out and got the hotel to store our luggage, and headed down to Pier 33 for our 11:30am Alcatraz departure. It was a beautiful day, probably the hottest one since we'd arrived. John got quite the sunburn. We toured around Alcatraz for a couple hours, it was really interesting to learn the history of the place. Wish we could have gone on a weekday as it was pretty busy, people walking in every which direction. Was interesting to learn that some of the families of the people who worked on Alcatraz actually lived on the island!

The views were amazing!

I loved all the different plant life on Alcatraz. They have volunteers that take care of all
the vegetation.

It was definitely something you have to see at least once in your lifetime...even if you do get pooped on by one of the thousands of birds that now use Alcatraz as a nesting ground. lol
Note to self, bring a hat to Alcatraz (actually most of it landed on the jacket I was carrying thank goodness!)
After our Alcatraz experience, we decided to try and find a couple souvenirs to take home for Austie. It was trickier than we thought...gave up on the idea of finding something authentically made in San Fran...everything is made in China, surprise surprise.
Then it was off to lunch at the Rainforest Cafe...we'd never been to one. It was ok. I can see us taking Austin to one someday.
The day had flown by and it was time to grab our luggage and head to the airport. We were both pretty exhausted by this point so we were looking forward to a nice quiet ride to the airport...well weren't we in for a treat when we got the chattiest cab driver I've ever met in my life. Don't think he stopped talking the whole time! haha. He even gave us his homemade business card. Dave Schneider is his name. Very nice guy just really lonely I think.
We arrived at the airport safely, Thanks Dave! Got through security quickly and then it was time to sit, relax and wait. Our flight with United was supposed to depart at 8:00pm but once again it was delayed...not too sure what time we actually got in the air. I'd definitely suggest flying West Jet if you can...not only because of the delays but with United you have to pay extra for checked bags. Crazy hey?!
Got a beautiful view of San Fransisco and surrounding areas as we took off.

What a great trip! Memories to last a lifetime!
Thanks John! You are the best!
